- District Governor Bio:
- Al Williams was born in Monroe, Michigan but due to health reasons moved at the age of 17 to Arizona. In 1946 he went to work for the forerunner of Arizona Public Service and in 1983 retired with 37 years of company service. In 1972 when invited to join the Lions by 21-A District Governor John Williams he quickly became involved in the Glendale Sunrise Club, where he served on the Board, as Secretary, President, Zone Chairman and Deputy District Governor. In 1983 when he retired he transferred to the Wickenburg Club and there served as President two years and zone chairman. In 1996 a move to Lawton saw him joining the Lawton Noon Lions where he served as club secretary during the 1998-99 year. Later he transferred to the Lawton Northeast Lions Club where he has served two years as Treasurer, two years as President and 2 years as Zone Chairman. He has received Lion of the Year from 3 of those clubs, Growth Award in 1980-81 while Deputy District Governor and an Appreciation for his service on the Arizona State Sight and Hearing Committee. Serving on the State Sight and Hearing Committee was a highlight of his years in Arizona. Al is also a Melvin Jones Fellow. He and his wife Marge raised 5 sons. They are the proud grandparents of 1 grandson, 5 other step and foster grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren.
